ECombat recently supplied customised gaming guns to Top Gear Live, the international tour based on and featuring the stars of the hit BBC Television show.
In the live show, three snipers from the Mercian regiment used replica SA80s, fitted with ECombat laser tag technology, to shoot at Jeremy Clarkson and The Stig as they completed a circuit of the indoor track in different cars.
At ECombat we rigged the pair up with customised harnesses and helmets, which registered direct hits from the weapons. Complex pyrotechnics created synchronised gunshot sounds every time the snipers fired a shot.
The snipers' scores were shown on a giant display board, allowing the audience to delight every time Clarkson took a hit.
Paul Diamond, CEO of ECombat said: "You can't use blanks so the only alternative was to use electronic simulation, so we have created a bespoke system. We had only three weeks to create the system and when we got to the rehearsals we didn't even know if it would work. It was a great privilege to work with Top Gear Live and we look forward to other projects in the future."
Top Gear Live's creative director Roland French loved the equipment provided by the company.
He said: "The system could have been sent in some crates from the MoD as far as I'm concerned. It looked great, it's very accurate and the soldiers knew exactly how to use it."
We also set-up a stand in the main arena to promote ECombat and our gun hire business to the public. We were surrounded by Aston Martins, drag racers and all manner of sports cars but we seemed to be one of the busiest stands there!
Check out the video that was filmed by a member of the public for a short snippet of Clarkson in our kit.
